It has been proven that people tend to overestimate their food intake when trying to build muscle and get stronger. In other words, they eat less than is necessary to achieve a steady and effective gain! Determining the nutritional effectiveness of protein in a diet is based in most cases on assessing the extent to which dietary protein nitrogen is taken up and absorbed by the body and how it can offset the estimated daily nitrogen loss. The physiological utility value (NetProtein Utilization NPU) is the percentage of ingested nitrogen that is retained by the body, the biological value (Biological Value BV) indicates the percentage of nitrogen absorbed that is retained. The biological value is therefore the result of the physiological utility and the digestibility. Whey protein has a good digestibility and amino acid composition, so its biological value is high - compared to other protein sources such as meat, fish, eggs and soy.
